GVMH Sleep Lab receives National Accreditation

Clinton, MO – (Feb. 16, 2019) A good night’s sleep is essential for a productive, healthy day. At Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare (GVMH), we understand the importance of getting sufficient sleep.

Recently, the GVMH Sleep Lab earned full national accreditation by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. This means the lab is committed to treating patients with sleep disorders.

The Sleep Lab focuses on high-quality, patient-centered care to identify and help find solutions for sleep problems. We conduct sleep studies to help determine the best care.

Sleep studies are tests that measure how well you sleep and how your body responds to sleep problems. These tests can tell your doctor if you have a sleep disorder and how severe it is.

The studies are important because untreated sleep disorders can raise your risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke and other medical conditions. Sleep disorders have also been linked to an increased risk of injury. This could include falling (in the elderly) and car accidents.

People usually aren't aware of how they breathe and move while sleeping. They may never think to talk to their doctors about issues that might be related to sleep problems.

Sleep disorders can be treated. Talk with your doctor if you snore regularly or feel tired while at work or school most days of the week.

“We want our patients to understand that we provide the best possible care to find and treat the underlying problems associated with sleep. This accreditation will help ensure patients receive the highest quality care. It is the gold standard by which the medical community and the public evaluate sleep medicine facilities,” said Savanna Facklam, RN, MSN, Director of Outpatient & Pulmonary Services.

Talk with your healthcare provider about any concern you have about your sleep health.
