Annual Halloween Hustle benefits cancer patients

The “Fright Crew” is one of the highlights of the annual Halloween Hustle 5K. Members of the crew surprise runners and walkers along the route, which uses the Conservation Department trails on South Second in Clinton.

The drizzle and gray skies only added to the atmosphere when runners and walkers of all ages gathered for the fourth annual Halloween Hustle and Monster Dash presented by Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare.

Held the morning of October 31, the event attracted dozens of participants – many in costume – who didn’t let a few rain drops keep them from supporting local patients coping with the side effects of cancer.

Since its inception, the Halloween Hustle has raised more than $10,000, according to Deanna Hendrich, GVMH Foundation Director.

“Each year on race day we see many of the same individuals and new faces,” she said. “This is a fun event and makes a real difference in the lives of patients who do not have the resources to get some of the supplies that they need.”

The 5K and fun run took place at the Missouri Department of Conservation trails on Second Street in Clinton. Costume contests, activities for children and door prizes rounded out the morning, which was made possible by several sponsors. In addition to GVMH, supporters included the Clinton Tourism Association, Juzo, Craig Thompson, American Family Insurance, First National Bank, Summers Pharmacy and Walmart.

Medals were given in several age categories. The top overall male was Jeremy Reno, and the top female finisher was Jessie Goodbrake. In addition, a team made up of Girls on the Run members earned the Zombie Team Challenge trophy. Click here to view race results...

The next Halloween Hustle will be held October 22, 2016. For more information about the 5K, fun run or the GVMH Foundation, please call 660-890-7108 or email
