Information packets are available for individuals, groups or businesses interested in forming a team for the upcoming GVMH Diabetes Walk on Saturday, March 28.
The walk, presented by Walgreens, will begin at 9 a.m. at the Clinton High School. “Dance to the Beat: Stomp out Diabetes!” is the theme. The morning will include dance music from CIS Productions. In addition, the Clinton Elks Lodge will serve a diabetic-friendly breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. Tickets for the breakfast – which includes egg casserole, mini muffins, fresh fruit, juice and coffee – are $5, with the proceeds going to the walk. Carry-out orders are available.
Money raised at the walk will help local diabetes patients who are coping with the disease, according to Kelly Ornelas, GVMH Diabetes Services Director.
“The teams have until the morning of the walk to collect money, so there is still plenty of time to form a team and help support the event,” Ornelas said. Each walker who raises $30 will receive an event T-shirt. Top teams will receive plaques for their fundraising efforts, with other fun awards going to teams with the most spirit, best dance moves and best costumes.
Individuals who want to support the event also can participate with a gift of any size, and “Walk Champions” who make a $100 gift will receive special recognition, according to Deanna Hendrich, GVMH Foundation Director. Sponsorships also are available beginning at $100, she said, and vendor booths are available for $50 each.
“We are grateful for the businesses and individuals who support the walk every year because we couldn’t do it without them,” she said. In addition to Walgreens, sponsors already committed for 2015 include Davita, First National Bank, Hawthorn Bank, Saint Luke’s Medical-Clinton, Aviation Fabricators, Culligan Water, Henry County Mutual Insurance/Sarah Shoemaker, Medtronic, Timothy P. Meyers & Co. and Twin Lakes Hospice.
Anyone interested in a team packet, sponsor/vendor information or making a contribution for the walk should call the GVMH Foundation office, 660-890-7108, or email email@example.com. Gifts made to the Foundation, a nonprofit organization, are tax-deductible.
Walkers of all ages participate in the annual GVMH Diabetes Walk, set for March 28 this year. The theme for this year’s walk is “Dance to the Beat: Stomp out Diabetes!” and all proceeds will be used to help local patients coping with the disease.
