Annual Diabetes Walk raises $17,000

The Olympics theme song played in the background and a torch led the way for participants at the 12th annual Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare Diabetes Walk.

More than 175 people gathered at Clinton High School the morning of Saturday, March 19, to “Go for the Gold: Beat Diabetes!”  Proceeds this year totaled $17,000.

“We are grateful for the individuals, businesses and organizations who gave,” said Deanna Hendrich, GVMH Director of Development and Communications. “Proceeds from the walk help local patients pay for prescriptions, supplies and education so they can better cope with their disease and learn about a healthier lifestyle.”

The walk included booths with information and activities for adults and children, door prizes and a grab-and-go breakfast prepared by the Clinton Elks Lodge, which gave donations for the meal to the walk.

The top fundraising teams for 2016 were Golden Valley Medical-Clinton as the Overall Top Team and Team Boxer, led by Shannan Clark, was the Top Friends and Family Team.  The Clinton JROTC won the spirit award, and Golden Valley Medical-Clinton, Golden Valley Medical-Warsaw and Hawthorn Bank were recognized for best team flags.  Other teams included Clinton Technical School Practical Nursing, First Presbyterian Church, Golden Living Center Westwood, GVMH Home Services, GVMH Rehab & Wellness, Hanger Clinic and The Hitchin’ Post.

 

Gold sponsors included DaVita, First National Bank, Golden Living Center Westwood, Hanger Clinic, Hawthorn Bank, Jim and Eula Fern Price, Smith’s Restaurant, Vansant-Mills Funeral Home and Walgreens.

Silver sponsors included El Camino Real, Jim Falk Motors, Mike Keith Insurance, Serenity Care Hospice and Craig Thompson.

Bronze sponsors included Aviation Fabricators, Dody Legacy Group, Eyecare Specialties, Full Line Lumber Center, Groff Dental Studio, Henry County Mutual Insurance/Sarah Shoemaker, James L. Adults and children alike learned more about their health through fun activities at the annual GVMH Diabetes Walk held recently.

 

Last year’s top team, GVMH Home Services, carried the torch for the 2016 GVMH Diabetes Walk, which had an Olympics theme. The event raised $17,000 to help local diabetes patients.

 

Golden Valley Medical-Clinton was the overall top team for the 2016 Diabetes Walk. Members held a variety of fundraisers and collected $2,805 to help local diabetes patients.

 

Team Boxer led by Shannan Clark was the Top Friends and Family team at the 2016 Diabetes Walk and raised $620.
